Beresta refers to thinly sliced onions that are deep-fried in oil or ghee until they become golden-brown, crispy, and caramelized. This crunchy, and fragrant fried onion is widely used in Indian, Bengali, and Mughlai cuisine to enhance the taste of any dishes.

Primarily used as a garnish for biryani, pulao to add a sweet, rich flavor and a crispy texture. It is also added in Dal, haleem, Korma and other gravies to bring the rich texture and enhance the sweet flavour of the dish.
